Zamfara Govt Hails Partners, Seeks More Support for IDPs

The Zamfara State Government has applauded its development partners for their sustained humanitarian interventions aimed at improving the lives of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and vulnerable groups across the state.

Commissioner for Humanitarian and Relief Matters, Hon. Salisu Musa Tsafe, gave the commendation while speaking at a one-day Kick-off Meeting on Lifesaving, Empowerment and Resilience Project (LEARP) in Abuja. 

The project, funded by the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) and implemented by Premier Urgence International (PUI), is expected to bring vital relief and empowerment opportunities to communities in Zamfara.

A Milestone in Humanitarian Efforts
Hon. Tsafe described the initiative as another milestone in addressing the needs of IDPs, particularly women and children, noting that such projects not only provide life-saving aid but also enhance resilience against long-term challenges.

He highlighted PUI’s track record in Zamfara, recalling its interventions during the 2025 World Humanitarian Day, which included direct support to displaced persons, awareness campaigns, and a tree-planting drive aimed at reducing the risks of natural disasters.

Thousands of IDPs in Dire Need
According to the Commissioner, Zamfara currently has thousands of displaced persons spread across 1,008 communities in all 14 local government areas, as documented in the State Social Register.

He appealed to the FCDO, PUI, and other partners to scale up their support through livelihood programs, empowerment schemes, and multipurpose cash transfers, stressing that these measures are critical to cushioning the harsh realities faced by IDPs and host communities.

Political Will for Partnership
Hon. Tsafe assured partners that Zamfara, under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, now offers the political will and enabling environment necessary for humanitarian agencies to operate effectively.

He reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to deepen collaboration with all partners to ensure that humanitarian projects continue to uplift the most vulnerable populations in the state.
