Police Launches Empowerment Drive for Officers’ Wives

In a bold step to uplift police families, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, has rolled out a landmark Empowerment Programme for Police Officers’ Wives, aimed at boosting self-reliance and economic stability.

The colourful ceremony, held at the Police Command Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, gathered dignitaries, senior police officers, and members of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA). It was a day dedicated to celebrating the often unsung heroines — the wives who stand as “silent pillars” behind Nigeria’s gallant officers.

Speaking at the event, CP Azare said the initiative was more than a welfare gesture. “This programme is an investment in the future of police families. When we empower the wives of our officers, we strengthen homes, reduce economic pressure, and build a more stable and secure society,” he emphasized.

The empowerment package featured the distribution of vital start-up materials including sewing machines, grinding machines, hairdressing kits, deep freezers, gas cookers, and other tools to help beneficiaries launch small-scale businesses.

The Acting Chairperson of POWA, Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Nkoyo Preye Egbe, lauded the Command and supporting partners like Vcare for Development Foundation for turning the initiative into reality, pledging continued dedication to the welfare of police families.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening officers’ welfare and family support, stressing that a resilient Police Force rests on the stability of officers’ homes.
