Court Backs ICPC in Kano Scholarship Funds Probe
Delivering judgment, Justice Josephine Obanor dismissed a suit filed by the Permanent Secretary of Kano State Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Hadi Bala, and others who sought to block the anti-graft agency from carrying out its investigation.
The applicants had argued that ICPC’s invitations for documents and clarifications violated their fundamental rights. But the court ruled otherwise, stressing that an invitation for investigation does not amount to a breach of rights.
Justice Obanor further held that the ICPC cannot be restrained from performing its lawful mandate, describing the suit as lacking in merit. The court, however, struck out the Attorney-General of the Federation as a party to the case.
The ruling clears the path for ICPC to continue probing allegations of financial impropriety within the Kano State Scholarship Board and the Ministry of Higher Education.
Reaffirming its commitment, the ICPC vowed to pursue transparency, accountability, and justice in the public sector.
