Tragedy in Abuja: Ghanaian Diplomat Dies After Suspected Abduction, Assault

A tragic incident has rocked the diplomatic community in Abuja following the death of Miss Freda Arnong, an official with the Ghana High Commission, after a suspected abduction and brutal assault.

The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of July 1, 2025, around 7:00 p.m., as Miss Arnong was en route to Transcorp Junction. She boarded a commercial taxi already carrying four unidentified male passengers. The vehicle allegedly veered off course, raising immediate concerns.

Sources within the Ghanaian mission revealed that Miss Arnong was later discovered in a severely injured state along Airport Road by a passerby, who quickly transported her to the National Hospital in Abuja. Despite intensive medical care, she succumbed to her injuries on July 7 at approximately 1:52 p.m.

Her body has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue pending an autopsy.

The FCT Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation through its Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The heartbreaking news has sent shockwaves through the diplomatic corps in Nigeria, with many expressing deep concern over the safety of foreign mission staff in the capital.

Described as committed and kind-hearted by her colleagues, Miss Arnong’s untimely death has left a void in the Ghanaian diplomatic community and among those who knew her.
