Katsina Governor Charts Bold Path in Agricultural Transformation

Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has empowered 102 graduates of the revived Songhai Comprehensive Centre with a ₦102 million seed capital package, in what he described as “a turning point in the history of agriculture in Katsina State.”
At the colorful graduation ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of Muhammadu Buhari House, each trainee received ₦1 million as starter capital — a significant rise from the earlier ₦300,000 support. The beneficiaries, drawn three each from Katsina’s 34 LGAs, underwent six months of intensive training in poultry, fishery, crop production, livestock management, market gardening, soil science, and biogas technology.
Agriculture Beyond Subsistence
Radda told the graduates that the funds represent more than financial support.
“It is the seed capital. If you use it wisely, it will grow, create jobs, and transform communities,” he charged.

The governor highlighted sweeping reforms already rolled out under his administration:
19,000 farmers supported with inputs and assets.
722 extension workers deployed across 361 wards, each with motorcycles and tools.
Distribution of 4,000 power tillers, 4,000 solar irrigation pumps, 400 tractors, 1,000 planters, and 10 combine harvesters.
20,000 metric tons of fertilizer supplied at ₦20,000 per bag, with seeds and chemicals subsidized by 50%.
Goat multiplication program benefitting 3,610 women and 361 medium-scale farmers.
He also announced that the next Songhai batch will admit 361 participants — one from each ward — to ensure wider grassroots inclusion.
Vision for Modern Farm Settlements
Governor Radda revealed plans to establish rural farm settlements equipped with schools, health centers, veterinary clinics, housing, and hostels to create modern, thriving farm communities.
He further noted that cotton production has been revived using improved seeds and enhanced value chains, with a view to restoring the crop’s role in the state’s economy.
“Together, we are moving our youth from the streets to the farms, from unemployment to enterprise, from dependency to dignity,” Radda declared to a thunderous applause.
