Katsina Govt Rallies Stakeholders Against Gender-Based Violence in Daura Zone

The Katsina State Government has renewed its call for stronger collaboration in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV), stressing that the menace threatens the wellbeing of women, children, and other vulnerable groups in society.


Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar Yar’adua, made this known during a one-day stakeholders’ engagement on GBV held in Daura Senatorial Zone. 

The meeting, organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs, drew participants from 12 local government areas, including representatives of security agencies, civil society organizations, the Human Rights Commission, traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youth associations.

A Directive from Governor Radda
Yar’adua described the program as a milestone in tackling the growing cases of GBV, especially against minors. She explained that the engagement was a directive from Governor Dikko Umar Radda, reflecting his concern for the plight of women and vulnerable groups across the state.

She urged stakeholders to serve as “ambassadors” in their communities, raising awareness and championing efforts to curb GBV.

All Hands on Deck
Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Malam Nura Murtala, emphasized the need for collective responsibility, noting that GBV knows no gender or age. He expressed optimism that the meeting would develop practical strategies to strengthen prevention and protection measures.

The Director of Women Development, Hajiya Amina Garba, gave an overview of GBV and outlined strategies already adopted by the ministry to confront the menace.

Unified Voices Against Violence
Other speakers from the Ministry of Justice, Nigeria Police, Ministry of Health, Hisbah Board, and traditional institutions praised the government’s commitment and described the meeting as a timely intervention.

The event was rounded off with the distribution of sanitary kits to women from the 12 LGAs of the Daura zone, courtesy of the Ministry of Women Affairs.
