“We Hear You, But Let’s Talk for the Sake of Future Leaders,” Yobe Govt Tells ASU-YSU

As part of measures by the Yobe State towards addressing issues that has to do with industrial strikes especially at the Yobe State University, the Yobe State Government has reached out to the university’s academic union with a message of empathy of “We hear you, but let’s talk for the sake of future leaders.”


In a statement signed and released by Alhassan Sule Mamudo the chief information officer of the head of service said, the call came during a crucial meeting between the state’s Head of Service, Alhaji Tonga Betara Bularafa, and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Yobe State University (ASU-YSU), as both sides explore paths to ending the disruption.


Alhaji Bularafa urged the union to consider the long-term impact of the strike actions on students and the state’s development, encouraging a shift from confrontation to collaboration.


“We are not against your demands; we recognize your rights, but strike action should not come at the cost of our children’s future, let’s engage in meaningful dialogue to move forward,” he said.


He noted that the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni has already addressed some of the union’s concerns, including the approval of the new N70,000 minimum wage, and is committed to resolving outstanding issues within the limits of the state's financial capacity.


Responding, Chairman of ASU-YSU, Comrade Ahmed Ibrahim Karage, expressed appreciation for the government’s outreach and said the union was encouraged by the Head of Service’s explanations.


“We came seeking understanding, and we are glad to see the government is willing to listen and act. 


We are hopeful this dialogue will lead us to a resolution,” he stated
