End of an Era: In Honour of the late President Muhammadu Buhari

By Adamu Aminu.

The late General!

It's exactly seven days

Since you departed this temporal world.

Sunday, 13th July 2025, marked the end of an era.

You left behind grieving families, friends, supporters, and admirers,

Still shedding tears.

At your first eternal audience with the Almighty Creator,

Even the untouchables were left with dewy eyes,

Knowing that sooner or later, their turn will come.

Your eternal journey, from which there is no return,

Leaves many with lessons on life.

Exchanging both forgiving and unforgiving words,

All knowingly wait for the time of embrace

And tight grip in our earthly tomb.

Judgement awaits all mortal beings.

Once a military leader in war against indiscipline,

You transitioned to democracy with widespread goodwill.

You etched your mark in the sand of time

For generations to come.

You had a good mind to better Nigeria,

But the ending went, not as planned.

You were short-lived, unable to see the Nigeria of your dream.

But the Almighty is in control!

"Gaba Ta Wuce Baya Adda Saura," a Hausa song verse,

Echoes the synonyms of your departure.

May divine lights continue to illuminate your grave,

And may God reward your good deeds

And forgive your shortcomings.
