Delta Tragedy: Police Sergeant Detained Over Shooting Death of Community Secretary

 

A police sergeant attached to Mobile Police Unit 57 in Ukana, Akwa Ibom State, is now in custody following the fatal shooting of a community leader in Delta State.

The officer, identified as Sgt. Irimiya I. Yaa, allegedly discharged his firearm under unclear circumstances, leading to the death of Ozuor Ezekiel Osadolor, the Secretary of Obiyima Community in Abavo, Ika South Local Government Area.

According to sources, the incident happened while Sgt. Yaa was accompanying Chief Freedom Oseke Udoka, a traditional titleholder known as the Eleme of Obiyima Community.

The victim was immediately rushed to the Central Hospital in Agbor but was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

In the aftermath of the incident, both the police officer and the community leader were taken into custody. Authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle along with four rounds of live ammunition at the scene.

The deceased has been moved to Anioma Clinic Mortuary for autopsy, while police investigators have launched a preliminary inquiry to determine what led to the shooting.
