Zulum Donates N300 Million to Mokwa Flood Victims, Extends Condolences to Adamawa Over Jibril Aminu’s Death

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Niger State following the recent flood disaster that struck Mokwa Local Government Area.


During a visit to the Niger State Government House in Minna on Tuesday, Governor Zulum met with his counterpart, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, and announced a ₦300 million donation to assist those affected by the natural disaster.


Zulum stated that the financial support was intended to reinforce Niger State’s ongoing efforts to cushion the devastating impact of the floods, which claimed lives and destroyed homes and livelihoods. He also conveyed the sympathy and solidarity of the people of Borno State, calling for unity among Nigerian states in tackling the broader challenge of climate change.


“It is a time for all subnational governments to come together and strengthen their efforts in addressing the effects of climate change, which continue to threaten vulnerable communities across the country,” Zulum said.


In his remarks, Governor Bago expressed deep appreciation to Governor Zulum for the generous gesture, describing it as timely and deeply touching. He praised Zulum’s leadership qualities—his resilience, commitment, and compassion—saying they serve as a model of proactive governance.


Governor Bago assured that the funds would be transparently and effectively used for relief and recovery operations. He also emphasized the need for sustained public awareness on avoiding settlements near flood-prone riverbanks.


Zulum’s delegation included Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, House of Representatives members Engr. Bukar Talba and Hon. Abduljadir Rahis, as well as the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Engr. Abdullahi Askira.


Zulum Pays Tribute to Late Prof. Jibril Aminu


In a separate engagement, Governor Zulum led a delegation to Adamawa State to condole with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri over the passing of renowned scholar and elder statesman, Professor Jibril Aminu.


Describing the late professor as a distinguished son of Borno and a national figure, Zulum lauded his immense contributions to the growth of education and public service in Nigeria. He noted that Aminu's legacy would continue to inspire generations to come.


Among those on the condolence visit was prominent industrialist Alhaji Mohammed Indimi, Chairman of Oriental Energy.


Governor Fintiri expressed gratitude for the show of solidarity, noting that Professor Aminu's death was not only a loss to Adamawa State but to the entire country.
