Major Northeast offensive: Military Eliminates ISWAP Leader Malam Jidda in Yobe, Recovers Arms in Timbuktu, Abadam Axis

Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces have intensified their counterterrorism operations across the North East, successfully neutralising a top Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) commander and recovering a cache of weapons in multiple theatres.

 

Military sources confirmed that in a recent special operation carried out at Ngazalgana village in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, troops made contact with terrorist elements and neutralised a high-value target identified as Malam Jidda, the ISWAP Ameer (leader) of Ngorgore and Malumti villages.

 

During the encounter, the troops recovered several weapons from the slain commander, including AK-47 rifles, loaded magazines, and a motorcycle used by the insurgents for mobility.

 

In a separate operation within the Timbuktu Triangle axis, a tactical ambush team deployed by troops engaged ISWAP fighters in a swift and decisive assault. The troops neutralised some of the terrorists during the encounter and recovered more AK-47 rifles along with other categories of military ordnance.

 

Military intelligence also confirmed that in the Abadam axis of northern Borno, troops conducting a follow-up clearance after an earlier engagement in Mallamfatori discovered the bodies of additional terrorists and recovered an assortment of abandoned weapons.

 

“The terrorists fled in disarray, leaving behind weapons of different calibres after the ferocious counterattack by gallant troops,” a security source disclosed.

 

These operations are part of the broader, coordinated offensive by the Nigerian military aimed at dismantling terrorist hideouts, disrupting logistics, and restoring security in communities affected by insurgency across the North East
