Kaduna Community Benefits from Polio Immunization Program, 118 Children Vaccinated

Journalists Initiative on Immunization Against Polio, JAP in collaboration with Kaduna state Primary Health Care Board (SPHCB), and the World Health Organization (WHO) have facilitated the vaccination of 118 Children in Hayin Madara community of Giwa Local Government Area, Kaduna State North West, Nigeria.

During the vaccination, JAP conducted local theater and road show performances in the Local Government Area, focusing on hotspot settlements with high rates of noncompliance.

The performances attracted families and children, creating opportunity for vaccinators to access and immunize children who had previously missed the immunization.

This intervention resulted in the successful immunization of 118 children under the ages of 5 years in order to reduce the number of zero-dose cases in the area.

in an interview with the newsmen during the programme, District Head of Giwa, Alhaji Aminu Abdulkarim Aminu warned parents against preventing children from accepting the vaccines due it's advantages to health of children and the society.

He reminded parents that, polio immunization is for the wellbeing of children from age 0 to 5 years as such government and development partners are working tirelessly to get across every child with the vaccines 

Adding that for more than 15 years JAP with support from WHO and the Primary Health Care Board has been carrying out Road Shows, Town Hall Meetings and Community Sensitization in efforts to addressing challenges associated with implementation of Polio Immunization in very high-risk settlements.
