Group Advocates Religious Tolerance In Bauchi, Plateau & Gombe

Nigerian Youths Collective Action for Religious Engagement Project is currently working in three states of Bauchi, Plateau and Gombe in promoting peace, policy formulation, and advancing issues of private conflicts and tensions happening as a result of issues of religious fightings and other drivers of conflict. 


"We are working with youths across those states towards advancing freedom of religion or believe in those states. And we are working across youths from formal and non-formal organizations which are implementing project related to advancing freedom of religion or believe, and there too many advocacy initiatives in Bauchi state".


The project manager for the Nigerian youths collective action for religious engagement project, working with a non-governmental organization, Search for Common Ground, implementing the project in Bauchi, Plateau and Gombe, Ummira Yah Askira, said that part of the project is working with micro-influencers and community stewards.


She spoke in Bauchi at the stakeholders roundtable where a law was formulated to facilitate religious or believe tolerance through youths advocacy, micro-influencers and community stewards to provide alternative peace resolutions to Issues of hate speeches, misinformation and disinformation in the online media 


"The ultimate objective of the project is to make youths have their capacity so that they would be able to advancing freedom of religion and also have their capacities to influence policies at state level. The other objective is for our youth to be informed and participate online towards advancing freedom of religion and believe".


The host and Bauchi state commissioner for internal security  home affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Galadima commended the non-governmental organisation for its initiative of changing the mindset of communities for harmonious and peaceful co-existence among individuals.


The commissioner expressed optimism that if such laudable programmes of putting people to understand themselves especially in advancing youth inclusiveness in policy solution the designed objective can be achieved.


Hon. Ibrahim Galadima was speaking at a stakeholders for advancing youth-inclusive policy solution for peace, religious freedom, and community resilience in Bauchi state held at Hazibal Suites, BAuchi.


He explained that his ministry is having synergy with non-governmental organisation, especially the Search for Common Ground with which they have been doing alot of things together.


Commissioner Ibrahim Galadima however counseled the NGO to apart from  dwelling much on religious aspects, should extend their programmes to economic values because most of the violence are economic in nature.


Galadima added, "So once the the economic problems are tackle, Iam sure the religious aspects of some of the violence would have been nip in the bud".


A member representing Warji State Constituency in the Bauchi House of Assembly, Hon. Garba Lawal who also took part in the roundtable discussions on the project, described the event as very impressive having enlightened youths on shunning away conflict and anything that has got to do with violence.


The lawmaker assured the legislature willingly ready to pass any law that would be useful to any community, especially citizens of Bauchi state that would promote peaceful co-existence among the various segments of the society.
