As Nigeria marked this year’s Democracy Day, Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to deepening democratic values, promoting peace, and delivering inclusive development for the people of Yobe.

In a rousing statewide broadcast to commemorate the June 12 celebration, Governor Buni described democracy as the “lifeline of modern governance,” emphasizing that the sacrifices of Nigeria’s democratic heroes must inspire leaders at all levels to uphold justice, fairness, and accountability.

“Democracy is not just a system of government; it is a sacred trust between the leaders and the led,” Buni declared. “Our administration remains firmly committed to protecting that trust through transparent governance, prudent resource management, and projects that directly impact the lives of our citizens.”

The Governor highlighted key milestones recorded under his stewardship, including the construction of modern schools, improved healthcare facilities, housing projects for displaced persons, and youth empowerment initiatives aimed at reducing unemployment and fostering innovation across the state.

Mai Mala Buni also used the occasion to call on Nigerians, especially political leaders, to unite in safeguarding the nation’s hard-earned democratic gains.

“We must set aside personal interests for national unity. Only by working together can we build the Nigeria of our dreams,” he urged.

The Governor later participated in a Democracy Day prayer session held at the Government House Mosque, joined by members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, and civil society leaders.

Political analysts and residents have widely praised Governor Buni for his calm but determined leadership style, crediting him with restoring stability and hope in a state once challenged by insecurity.

As Nigeria’s democracy continues to evolve, many see the Yobe State Governor as a steady hand committed to leading with humility, listening to the people, and leaving behind a legacy of peace and progress.
