Busted: Troops Intercept Truck with 164,000 Rounds Bound for IPOB/ESN in Anambra

In a major security breakthrough, troops of Operation UDO KA, working in concert with 63 Brigade and the Department of State Services (DSS), have intercepted a truck packed with over 164,000 live cartridges allegedly destined for the proscribed IPOB and its armed wing, ESN.

The high-stakes operation, carried out on May 29 along the Asaba–Onitsha expressway, was sparked by credible intelligence that led to the arrest of suspected arms courier, Mr. Emeka Omenife.

According to military sources, Omenife, under interrogation by the DSS, confessed to being part of a transnational arms syndicate smuggling ammunition from Ghana to Nigeria for separatist fighters.

The trail didn’t end there. Acting on his confession, troops swooped in on Mr. Uchenna Obiora at the Onitsha–Awka tollgate the following day, May 30, catching him red-handed as he waited to receive the deadly cargo. Their arrest led to the recovery of the ammunition-loaded truck, which had been expertly concealed to evade detection.

Security analysts are hailing the interception as a major disruption of IPOB/ESN’s supply chain, warning that such stockpiles pose a grave threat to peace and stability in the Southeast.

A senior intelligence officer stated: “This operation has likely saved hundreds of lives. The sheer volume of ammunition shows the scale of the threat we’re up against.”

The suspects remain in DSS custody as investigations deepen into what could be one of the largest arms smuggling networks uncovered in recent years.

Authorities say the crackdown sends a clear message: Nigeria’s security forces are watching — and ready to strike.
