Appeal Court Shuts Down Akpabio’s Bid Against Senator Natasha, Slams Him with ₦100,000 Cost

In a dramatic legal blow, the Court of Appeal has struck out motions filed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, affirming her victory and ordering him to pay ₦100,000 in costs.

The court’s decision came as a relief to supporters of the Kogi Central Senator, whose triumph in the 2023 general election had earlier come under legal scrutiny. Akpabio, who filed multiple motions challenging aspects of the election and post-election proceedings, faced a clear rejection from the appellate court.

Delivering its ruling, the panel described Akpabio’s motions as lacking merit and a distraction from substantive justice. The court further imposed a ₦100,000 penalty against the Senate President — a symbolic yet pointed message against what it deemed a needless legal tussle.

Legal analysts say the ruling not only reinforces Senator Natasha’s electoral legitimacy but also signals the court’s growing intolerance for what it views as frivolous appeals by political heavyweights.

The fiery Kogi lawmaker has since taken to social media to thank her supporters, vowing to remain focused on delivering legislative dividends while urging women across Nigeria to stay resilient in the face of political intimidation.
