Radda honors fallen c-watch officers, assures continued support for victims' families

Governor Dikko Umar Radda of  Katsina State has ordered a special committee to visit the families of community watch officers who were ambushed by bandits while on duty in Marhaba Village, Matazu Local Government Area on Saturday, May 24, 2025. The community watch team, led by Commander Sanusi Yusuf, was targeted by criminal elements as they worked to protect the lives and property of local residents.


The committee, headed by Yusuf Ibrahim Safana, the Special Adviser on Security, includes Sa'idu Ibrahim Danja Kogunan Jibia Senior Special Assistant on Victims of Banditry and Internally Displaced Persons and Abubakar Hamisu Technical Assistant to the Governor. Their mission is to offer condolences, provide financial assistance and support the families affected by this tragedy.


The family of the late Commander Sanusi Yusuf was presented with a cash gift of two million Naira and five bags of rice. Each family of the other fallen C-Watch personnel received one million Naira and two bags of rice. The state government also extended financial support of 250,000 Naira to the families of those who were hospitalized, ensuring their medical bills are fully covered without any cost to them.


Governor Radda visited the wounded C-Watch officers at the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina, where he assured the victims of the government's unwavering commitment to combating criminality in the state. Speaking through the Special Adviser, Yusuf Safana, the Governor reiterated the administration's determination to provide security and justice for all residents, particularly those who risk their lives to protect others.


The official condolence visit took place on 26 May 2025, and was warmly received by local leaders, including Mannir Mu'azu Ruma Chairman Batsari Local Government, the State Member representing Batsari, Mustapha Tukur Ruma and the Sarkin Ruma, the District Head of Batsari, among other dignitaries.


This act of support from the state government has been hailed as a significant step toward showing appreciation for the brave efforts of the C-Watch officers who continue to make sacrifices in the fight against banditry and insecurity in the state. Governor Radda’s administration has vowed to continue providing resources and support to security personnel working tirelessly to restore peace and safety across Katsina.
