One Feared Dead in Suspected Abuja Blast Near Mogadishu Barracks

A suspected explosion rocked the Federal Capital Territory on Monday, claiming the life of one person and injuring another.

The blast, which occurred near the Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja, is believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), although security officials have not confirmed the exact cause.

According to AIT, an eyewitness — a military officer who requested anonymity — said the deceased may have been a suicide bomber, as the explosion appeared to have originated from a rubber container in his possession.

However, military sources on the ground offered a different perspective, suggesting the incident might have been triggered by a mobile device rather than an IED.

As of the time of filing this report, personnel from the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police, and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were still on-site conducting assessments and securing the area.
