NUJ to Wike: Respect Rule of Law, Avoid Actions That Hurt Nigeria’s Image

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, to adopt a more empathetic and lawful approach in enforcing administrative policies, especially on issues such as ground rent enforcement.

In a statement signed by the NUJ National President, Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, the Union emphasized the importance of respecting due process and legal frameworks, warning that any perceived arbitrary actions could undermine investor confidence and tarnish Nigeria’s international image.

"Unilateral decisions risk creating an atmosphere of unpredictability," the statement read, adding that such moves could deter both local and foreign investment while eroding public trust in governance.

The NUJ urged the FCT Administration to ensure that all development initiatives align with democratic principles, the rule of law, and respect for human rights, stressing that these are essential pillars for sustaining national credibility and the integrity of the Tinubu Administration.

The Union concluded by urging Barr. Wike to re-evaluate current enforcement strategies, advocating for a more humane and legally grounded approach to development in the capital.
