New Locally-Made Combat Vehicles Set to Bolster Nigerian Army Operations in Northeast

The Nigerian Army's combat capabilities are poised for a significant upgrade with the introduction of new locally-produced All-Terrain Combat Vehicles, unveiled Monday during the 2025 Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Bi-Annual Conference in Maiduguri, Borno State. The "Vanquisher" vehicles, manufactured by Vanquish Industries in Kaduna, are expected to provide a critical boost to ongoing military operations, particularly in difficult terrains.

Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede praised the indigenous production, asserting that the vehicles "will boost our operation and troops advancement into difficult areas." He assured that the vehicles would be put to "judicious use, for the purpose they are meant to serve."

According to Mr. Zach Duwa, Managing Director of Vanquish Industries Limited, the "Vanquisher" is primarily designed to enhance infantry mobility, enabling troops to traverse challenging operational environments. Built with military-grade materials, the vehicles feature night vision technology, allowing troops to navigate effectively in low-light conditions. Duwa also noted the vehicles' adaptability to incorporate additional operational facilities.

The delivery of these five "Vanquisher" vehicles marks the first batch, with more units currently in production and expected to be delivered on schedule. This strategic acquisition is a direct response to the operational demands faced by the Nigerian Army, particularly in counter-insurgency efforts in the northeast, where difficult terrain often hinders rapid troop movement. The local production also signals a move towards greater self-sufficiency in equipping the armed forces.
