Dangote Group, Niger Govt Unveil Multi-Billion Naira Agric Partnership to Boost Food Security, Job Creation

In a bold step to transform Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, the Dangote Group and the Niger State Government have sealed a multi-billion naira partnership under the Niger Food initiative — a private-public agricultural development programme aimed at enhancing food security and economic growth.

The highlight of the collaboration is the ongoing construction of a cutting-edge rice mill in Wushishi, Niger State, touted to be one of the largest in the country. Senior Special Adviser to the President and CEO of Dangote Group, Fatima Wali Abdurrahman, made the announcement at the opening of the 2025 Niger National Trade Fair, saying the project was “progressing steadily and on track for completion.”

“The 32 Metric Tonnes Per Hour rice mill, being developed on a 30-hectare site, will transform local rice production, create thousands of jobs, and strengthen the agricultural value chain,” she said. She added that the company is also building 32 silos nearby, each with a 2,500-metric-ton capacity, alongside a 5.8MW captive power plant to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Dangote Group, a key sponsor of the 21st Trade Fair organized by the Niger Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NCCIMA), said the initiative would support out-growers with inputs such as fertilizers and buy 100% of their rice at market-competitive rates.

Representing Governor Umar Bago, the Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry, Aminu Suleiman Takuma, praised Dangote’s bold investment, pledging the state’s support and revealing plans to elevate the Niger Trade Fair into an international expo.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Sabi Abdullahi, in a message delivered by Dr Suleiman Ladan, said the initiative aligns perfectly with President Tinibu’s economic agenda, emphasizing commercial agriculture as key to national prosperity.

NCCIMA President, Dr. Bisi Adeniyi, echoed similar sentiments, urging the private sector to tap into Niger State’s vast arable land for agricultural ventures.

With this collaboration, Niger State is set to become a hub of agro-industrial revolution, positioning itself at the heart of Nigeria’s food security future.
