Cultists Linked to Cow Theft and Deadly Attacks Nabbed in Late Evening Raid

In a decisive move to restore peace and security in Ibesikpo Asutan and surrounding communities, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested five suspected cultists during a well-coordinated operation that took place at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, May 28, at Ikot Etuk Village, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA.

Acting on credible intelligence, the police stormed the notorious hideout of a gang allegedly responsible for a string of violent attacks and cult-related activities. The raid led to the recovery of:

  • One locally made pistol
  • One fabricated single-barrel gun
  • Items suspected to be charms

The apprehended suspects are:

  • Utibe Edem Asuquo (31)
  • Godwin Edet Edem (32)
  • Usen Edem Eyo (29)
  • Aniebiet Edet Edem (28)
  • Anthony Dominic Edem (32)

During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to multiple criminal acts, including a recent violent attack on Fulani herdsmen, which resulted in the killing of two cows. The stolen livestock, according to police sources, were distributed among rival cult groups in the area.

“This operation marks a major breakthrough in our ongoing crackdown on criminal gangs in Akwa Ibom,” said DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer. “The suspects are already assisting us with valuable information, and we are intensifying efforts to arrest other fleeing members.”

The police command has assured residents of continued intelligence-led operations to dismantle cult networks and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.

Further updates will be made public as investigations progress.
