Tinubu Rejects N942bn Census Budget, Proposes NYSC Corps Members for Exercise
In a bold move to cut costs, President Bola Tinubu has rejected the proposed N942 billion budget for Nigeria’s national census, directing officials to explore more cost-effective alternatives.
Sources within the Presidency revealed that Tinubu is pushing for the deployment of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members as enumerators, a strategy aimed at reducing expenses while ensuring nationwide coverage.
The decision comes amid economic challenges and concerns over excessive government spending. Analysts say the move aligns with Tinubu’s broader fiscal discipline agenda.
The National Population Commission (NPC) is now expected to revise its budget and incorporate the President’s directive, setting the stage for a potentially historic census exercise.
