Iran Carries Out Record 975 Executions in 2024 Amid Global Outcry

Iran has executed at least 975 people in 2024, marking one of the highest death tolls in recent years, according to human rights monitors. The executions were carried out for crimes including murder, rape, and drug-related offenses, sparking renewed international condemnation.

Activists accuse Tehran of using the death penalty as a tool of repression, while Iranian authorities defend the executions as necessary for justice and national security. With the alarming surge in capital punishment, global watchdogs are urging urgent intervention to halt what they describe as a "crisis of human rights abuses."
