Hoodlums Storm FAAN Airspace Site in Lagos, Injure Police Inspector, Guard

Chaos erupted at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) airspace facility in Lagos on Thursday as a gang of about 20 suspected vandals launched a violent attack, leaving a police inspector and a private security guard injured.

The incident, which happened around 5:05 a.m. on Sept. 25 during a heavy downpour, saw the hoodlums armed with cutlasses, axes, tiles, and other crude weapons storming the compound in an attempt to wreak havoc.

Police sources told Zagazola that Insp. Dada Fisayo and Insp. Francis Azurunwa, who were on guard duty, fought back and repelled the first wave of attackers. However, exploiting the rain and weaknesses in the facility’s fencing, another gang of invaders managed to cart away two 7.5KVA inverters and several lengths of cables.

Insp. Fisayo sustained injuries but has since been treated and is due for discharge, while private guard Babatunde Makinde is receiving care for a deep cut on his left hand.

The Divisional Police Officer and detectives have visited the scene. Authorities say manhunt operations are underway to track down the culprits and recover the stolen equipment.
