Facebook Page “Gimbiyar Hausa” Accused of Fueling Hausa-Fulani Division

A Facebook page named “Gimbiyar Hausa” has come under fire for allegedly promoting hatred and rivalry between Hausa and Fulani communities.

Freelance journalist Abdulrazak Ahmad Jibia, known for his reports on security, education, and religion in Northwest Nigeria, accused the page of spreading divisive content that threatens the historical unity of the Hausa-Fulani identity.

Tracing its history, Jibia revealed that the account was first created as “Gimbiya” on July 15, 2021, later renamed “Gimbiya FM” in April 2022, before finally becoming “Gimbiyar Hausa” in January 2023. He alleged that the page, managed by three individuals, deliberately pushes posts designed to poison relations between the two ethnic groups.

“The Facebook page ‘Gimbiyar Hausa’ was deliberately created to ignite conflict among us and weaken the Islamic values that bind our hearts,” Jibia warned, urging both Hausa and Fulani to resist attempts at division.

His concerns were echoed by Gombe-based journalist Nasiru Adamu El-hikaya, who has repeatedly condemned the page for promoting anti-Islamic rhetoric and insulting revered figures, including Shehu Usmanu Danfodiyo, the 19th-century Islamic reformer. El-hikaya likened the campaign to propaganda that fueled atrocities in Rwanda, cautioning that unchecked hate speech could trigger violence.

With over 181,000 followers, fears are growing about the page’s reach. El-hikaya claimed the supposed female operator, “Gimbiya,” is actually a male impostor using a fake identity to mislead the public. He further alleged that the page has targeted prominent Islamic scholars and even late leaders such as Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto.

Other voices, including Mustapha Gembu, a Borno-born engineer with Dangote Group, have joined in condemning the page as a platform for fabricated lies against Hausa-Fulani leaders.

Observers warn that unless authorities and community leaders step in, divisive pages like “Gimbiyar Hausa” could exploit social media freedoms to spread dangerous disinformation and destabilize the centuries-old unity of Hausa
